I might be buying a new PC soon, and would like some "advice" from my fellow WINNERS   :roddy:

1.  Is 24GB RAM stupid?
2.  Liquid cooling for the processor any good?
3.  Worth paying out for a Solid State Drive?

#2 18-10-2011, 17:10:35 PM
1. That's kinda overkill.
2. Beats me. You'll be fine without it though.
3. Maybe. I'd suggest you use a normal hard drive as secondary storage and only store the OS and programs you use often on the SSD. They're expensive as fetch though so if you don't think you can afford it then just forget about it. Buy it for the speed, not the storage.

1. Yes
2. It's good but unnecessary. If you feel like you're gonna need extra cooling power (i.e. overclocking), you can get an aftermarket air cooler
3. SSDs are great and all but it all boils down to how much you're willing to spend. Personally I think they're still too expensive and with Steam not allowing you to choose different directories to install the games, you'll end up filling the SSD with crap games that won't really benefit from it and will rob space for the other games. Some people like to buy a small one just to install Windows and get much shorter startup times but again, I view that as a luxury. SSDs are a luxury

No mention of video card means the PC would be... like... meaningless.

if he can buy 24 gb of ram, a processor in need of water cooling and an SSD I think the graphics card would be a pittance

Looking at some random Nvidia 2GB card.

Nah, all that stuff is pretty cheap anyway.  I won't get the top of the range processor, or a SSD - I reckon the slight speed increases from both aren't worth the cost

Don't know about water cooling yet - from what i've read it's not all it's cracked up to be

Instead of thinking about the CPU, getting SLI would punch it more than watercooling or extra RAM.
