Making an SSD

by RAIDing together 10 flash drives. 10 64gb usb 2.0 flash drives cost only about $30, double that for 3.0. A 3.0 hub is about $50. Sure, even with 3.0, it's going to be significantly slower because youre RAIDing together 10 flash drives, but it's still way cheaper than this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008120%20600136716&IsNodeId=1&name=600GB
Is there something I'm overlooking?, because the usb 3.0 flash drives and hub i assessed operated at nearly 1 Mbps(which is a lot, even if it's still a far cry from the ideal speed at which SSDs tranfer at)

Also, if someone could help me with the hyperlinks without giving me a pacifier post rating, that'd be cool.

where in the world are you getting $20 64 GB USB 3.0 flash drives?

certainly not from newegg and I don't know anywhere cheaper than that.

in any case I'd rather have an internal 200 GB SSD for $200 than a massive tangle of hubs and drives for almost that much and with much less performance.

I'm a computer scientist and I can assure you that you can't raid together flash memory like you're describing, winnerest loser.

$30, double that for 3.0.

okay then $60 * 10 + 2 * $50 is $700 for a vastly inferior product compared to an SSD that is a hundred dollars more expensive

Ok, well why exactly is it going to be vastly inferior? It's still faster than an HDD, and that's if youre using USB 3.0. Plus you get the added flexibility of having ten flash drives

it's still way slower than an SSD of marginally higher price (which is the whole point of using flash memory), much less reliable, and if it's in RAID you probably won't be able to use it flexibly at all

I do want to build a mini PC for the purpose of emulators.  Probably combine it with an HTPC or something

im going to build a couch fort

Build a fort with all of the empty Code Red cans you have.

Just kidding, that's mean.  That would imply that you only drink cans of Code Red, when I know you are manly enough to drink it straight from 2L bottles.

i could easily build one from the 2L bottles though, i havnt taken the trash out for 2 days
