Also does anyone know where I could get a pair of the red and blue 3D glasses?  I want to try it out but I don't exactly have such a thing lying around.

Yes it does work and it works just fine. Slightly annoying but a nice little feature none the less.

The car sticks out a bit and the track really pops out but the colors are weird as you would imagine.

I stole mine from my little brother. I do know that AMC kids packs at the movie theater usually have a pair on the back of them.
