Chromecast can actually stream your local media files apparently.
The supported formats are limited, though. For example, it can't play MKVs, and the only supported codecs are H.264 and VP8

There's also experimental support for streaming your entire desktop wow!!
I heard it's buggy tho and the latency is kinda bad

Chrome Browser is still pretty bad compared to Firefox but everything else is very smooth compared to 4.2
