My Review of BROTRR

Flashback to the year 2003. PC gaming was in ruins, and all seemed hopeless due to LOSER games such as Halo: Combat Devolved. But on November 20, an obscure Russian outfit known as Stellar Stone released what is known as Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. I first learned of BROTRR via GameRankings, thinking it to be nothing more than a crappy racing game with terrible physics. However, that all changed in 2011, when I bought a copy of the game for myself. I didn't expect much out of it, other than laughs.

GAMEPLAY
After inserting the game into the disc drive, I was greeted with a menu on how to install the game. Going through the readme, I set up my copy of Big Rigs and placed in my computer's hard drive. In front of my eyes flashed four beautiful BIG RIG trucks, all pristine and true-to-life. I took notice of the rig with flames, Megaone, and decided to select him. At the next menu, I found myself with the choice of five tracks—Devil Passage 1, Devil Passage 2, Forgotten Road 1, Nightride, and Small Town Road. Nightride's icon (an active city with orange lights and fast cars) caught my attention, so I selected it.

Upon starting up a race, I discovered that the arrow keys controlled my rig. I drove along the road, but my opponent rig did not move—at first. Letting my guard down, I stayed in one spot, just in time for my opponent to equip himself with jet boosters and race along at an incredible speed. However, before he could hit the finish life, time froze, giving me the chance to beat my opponent to the finish. I trudged into a nearby tree, and much to my surprise, passed through it. I couldn't believe what was happening in front of my eyes—pure Heaven, concentrated into a .exe file.

I soon discovered I could also go backwards at the SPEED OF LIGHT—an innovation never seen in any game before this one. I crossed the finish line, beating my opponent, and recieved a trophy stating "YOU'RE WINNER !" This absolutely sealed the deal for me, and from that day on, I considered BROTRR to be the greatest anything ever. The gameplay gets a 10/10.

STORY
Most games around the time of BROTRR had hilariously predictable, cliche stories (looking at you, Gaylo), but this most certainly wasn't one of them. While BROTRR may at first appear to be an ordinary racing game with a minimalistic plot, that most certainly isn't the case once you play it for yourself. In BROTRR, you must fight against the evil of Alex Navarro and his company GameSpot—with help, of course. Characters you will meet along the way include Mr. T., Shaq, CATS, Samuel L. Jackson, and ET, all of which starred in other WINNER games like Shaq Fu and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.

The story gets another resounding 10/10.

GRAPHICS
The visuals in BROTRR are sub-par—or so you've been told by LOSER Alex Navarro. But in truth, each stage in the game is highly unique, lush, detailed, and serve their respective purposes. Devil Passage 1 is a dangerous highway full of excitement and adventure, while Forgotten Road 1 is a plethora of grassy rolling hills and abandoned towns. And Nightride, for example, is a bustling metropolis featuring a constellation of Supez giving you a thumbs up. All four of the big rig trucks are well-constructed and stand on their own.

The graphics also deserve a 10/10.

SOUND
When I first started up my copy of BROTRR, my ears were enchanted by a delightful, well-orchestrated technotrack. I checked the game's credits and found that the genius who composed this music was none other than ALEX BURTON (not to be confused with LOSER reviewer Alex Navarro). And throughout the game, there's not one but FIVE symphonies, all of which were composed by Burton and all of which sound lovely, life-chaning, heart-pouding, and scar-inducing. Don't miss out on this gem of a soundtrack.

Another 10/10.

OVERALL
In conclusion, BROTRR is art and should be treated as such. It helped convert me from LOSER to WINNER, and needs to be preserved in museums for future generations, because that's how truly great it is. My score?
