have you actually seen mark sanchez play, 5 years 58 mill, plus 10mill of incentives he can earn.  Meaning that if the team makes the playoffs despite sanchez he'll get even more.

If they think he's going to be a franchise quarterback then it's a reasonable price but it's still damn risky

Sanchez isn't as bad as people make him out to be. He's still young.

Doing better than Alex Smith and look at him now, just give him time and he'll be the next 'fetch it good enough' the jets need

Yeah he was only 23rd out of 33 qualified quarterbacks when it comes to passer rating.  He also hasn't really shown any significant progress or improved decision making but it was a good signing!!
