what the unicorn is an ev
I am going to nerd this thread up something fierce...

EVs are the hidden points in Pokemon games, that tweak the individual stats of the Pokemon you're training, further making your Pokemon even more unique as compared to others of the same type, level and moveset.  Basically, committing certain actions or defeating certain Pokemon raises certain EV levels, causing a few points of differential in the development of a given stat.  It's almost impossible to gauge the exact EV levels of a Pokemon, though, because that information isn't displayed anywhere.  Certain items, like Protein, Calcium, etc. work by jacking up the EVs in a certain stat.  So not only do you get the small boost in the stat when you take it initially, but it ensures that future level-ups will award more points to that stat in the future.

Does that answer your question?
