The real reason the McDLT came in that weird package is because real tomatoes scream when they come in contact with McBurgerstuff(tm).

Anyways my vote for stupidest invention ever would be The Amazing World Of Gumball.

it's a super rad show with all sorts of female and genderfluid representations and i love it (though i haven't watched much of it lately since it requires me to either torrent or stream it)

I doubt that's the case. I just think Ben Bocquelet can fart out episodes of TAWOG faster than Rebecca Sugar can make SU episodes. Makes a kind of partial-credit sense when you think about it - all the art & animation in SU is original and hand drawn, while 90% of TAWOG is photo/video compilation and computer-assisted After Effects animation.

My general dislike of TAWOG has nothing to do with the art style, although I do consider is symptomatic of my real issue. I just think "lol random" is kind of lazy. For every one joke in the show that is genuinely clever, there seem to be 10 instances of "it's funny because (random item) is interacting with (random item)". It's like watching a sitcom based on Mad Libs.

Again, not always the case, and I'll admit there are a few times when the show is genuinely funny. It just doesn't happen often enough given the fact that it is now 1/4 of all cartoons occupying the Cartoon Network schedule at any given time.

Gumball is random humor, but it's done right.  The pace is fast enough and the animation is so expressive (even though it's not painstakingly hand-animated by hayao miyazaki) that it's fun to watch.  Every episode also builds really well and to a satisfying conclusion, kind of like the IT Crowd.
