Assassin's Creed 2 was a fantastic improvement over 1, probably my favorite in the series (ignore the astronomically stupid ending). Then they remade the same game over and over as ubisoft is known to do. I didn't play 3 because I heard it got meh reviews.

I'm playing 4 on and off right now. It's super fun but I have to be in a pirate mood to play it.

Shadow of Mordor was a very fun game as well but I will say if you want to get a lot of hours out of something then an assassin's creed game is the way to go.

Skip 1, get 2, get brotherhood, skip revelations, and get 4.  Play the first three hours of 3.  Youtube the rest for stories.
