Any way it turns out, it will be entertaining to watch the fanboys squirm. We've got about 10 years worth of fans brought up only on the Clone Wars animated series and all the side stories from books/games. The Star Wars universe really is confusing so they gonna have to pull something special out of the property.

I wish Star Wars didn't matter so much to me lol
Yeah, my thoughts exactly.  Oh well, this is the worst thing ever and fetch anyone who disagrees with me.

Yeah I think the series itself, the world and the original movies, has a real charm,  so many people are attached. I hate how so many properties from the 70s and 80s that were distinctive and charming are 'updated' to be modern blockbusters. I wish they would do something like KOTOR 2 with some subtlety and originality. They won't  of course, but it'd be nice. Get ready for the good guys to fight the bad guys with lots of special effects.

Not Episode VII.  That needs to be more claymation.

By the end of the year, the $4.05 billion sale of Lucasfilm to Disney should be finalized. And since George Lucas owns 100 percent of his company - which has little to no debt - all that money goes to him.

After that, Lucas plans to quickly put the bulk of the money into a foundation which will primarily focus on educational issues, a spokesperson for Lucasfilm tells THR.

Hey, they did a good job with the Avengers movies, and Marvel is owned by Disney. Imagine a Joss Whedon Star Wars.
Watched the Avengers yesterday.  As a comic book movie it's good.  As an actual film it's total garbage, and if that's what they're doing to Star Wars then no thank you.

But wasn't Star Wars just big explosions and otherwise heavy action sequences?

Star Wars was a good story.  It had good characters following a compelling arc with enough action to satisfy but not overwhelm.  The main characters in the Avengers don't change appreciably from their previous respective movie incarnations (Black Widow and Hawkeye being decent exceptions) and the "witty banter" I was promised was exactly what I would have expected to play out, nothing more.  The main problem I had with it was Loki.  He's played as even more of a sniveling jackass in this story; his evil plans always fail, he always showboats himself into getting punched/exploded/thrown around like a toy and he is totally inappropriate for a villain.  This, in turn, totally kills the dramatic arc, which basically peaks when Hawkeye is attacking the carrier because he is the only really believable threat.  After he stops being a bad guy there is no credible threat to the world (besides the massive stupidity of firing a nuke at Manhattan), and the last hour of the movie is a very long, very dull action sequence.

It's not memorable, no one is going to be talking about it 10 years from now.  It's a dumb fun summer blockbuster with absolutely no value as anything more than eye candy.  Star Wars isn't the pinnacle of cinema, but it's had people talking for 35 years now and events like this are a big deal to everyone.
