I will likely have to make EXTREME SACRIFICES if I want to come this year but nothing is too extreme for wasting a week in California watching other people get drunk

Align the paddles so that the ball only moves horizontally. Every time the ball hits a paddle, take a drink.

Yeah except that's literally impossible in the actual atari pong because of the way it's designed

The paddle is segmented in 8 parts, each one sending the ball at a different angle, never straight ahead
