I never realized this before but Valve is a great company like Google here to save us from the evil greedy companies like MS, Sony, NintenDOH, and Apple

My workmate said, "I will buy the Steam Box because a lot of my games currently run on Steam."   :belair:

Why would you need a console to play PC games?

I wanted to play STEAMBOX games

What I like about game consoles is they're one hardware platform for developers to target with a LONG LONG LONG LONG lifespan.
No complicated system requirements, "This game is optimized for STEAMBOX 69," so simple, so magical, omg

What I dislike about them is:
- made by evil (i.e. not Google or Valve) companies
- expensive games/few free or indie games
- very closed locked down prison!!

I was hoping the STEAMBOX would be THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS!!!
The simplicity of a game console on an open platform that anybody can develop for, even Thunder , with great free or affordable indie titles such as "Bigger Riggers" and "Donut's Space Adventure"

But now I'm not so sure,  frequent hardware upgrades can cause FRAGMENTATION and then developers no longer have a single hardware platform to write games for.
Seems more like a PC than a game console

Baby post rating

There probably wouldn't be that many available upgrades each year. And developers don't want to alienate audiences that have inferior technology. Even if there's a few different pieces of hardware that a console could potentially have, it isn't that much more work than if there was one potential piece of hardware. Certainly less than today's game optimization, which is practically impossible beyond optimizing for operating systems. Even if it got to the point where hardware from previous Steambox upgrade generations weren't supported for entire games, it'd be equivalent in life cycle to where the PS2 is now(though the console life cycle itself would be much shorter)
