I guess I'll try it again but it didn't compare to Defense Grid when I played it.

In all honesty due to it's RPG mechanics it keeps getting better as you play, you can't just judge it based on a few levels. And also part of what makes it addicting is progressing/improving your character/team then go back to beat previous levels at higher difficulties
