after a few minutes of messing around I realize this update isn't very substantive at all in terms of immediate gameplay

ever since dinnerbone joined the team they have somehow managed to do less work on the gameplay

Beacons seem like a cool addition, I could see them being useful for XP/monster grinding areas, but holy poo poo do you need to go through a mountain of crapola just to make one.

Item frames are neat as well, they'll be a neat alternative to signs for marking chests I think. maybe also a better way to have quicker control over the art in houses.  One of the other servers I frequent has used them to post "you are here" maps at various key locations.  Not sure if that's a mod or if that's an actual feature of the item frames.

Flower pots are cool, I guess, I've never really wanted to put flowers indoors but I might now that I know I can.

Buttons are easier to make now.  You can use one block, and there are wooden buttons now, for all your "nowhere near a stove and don't feel like doing a huge song and dance for one freaking button" needs.

Finally, a way to control pigs, now maybe I can get that one stupid achievement and move on with my life.

You can now dye leather armor one of over 16 million different colors, so Diss I expect will be killing more cows in the near future.  You can also dye wolf collars, which is cool I guess.

Ooooh, zombies can infect villagers now, that's cool.  Zombies and skeletons can also use tools, weapons and armor.

Hah!  Villagers now have the ability to like or dislike specific players!  If they really don't like you, they'll sic their golems on you.

It's some cool stuff but usually with a big update like this I can go into a creative singleplayer game and do some serious dicking around.  This time, not so much.

Withers are pretty ridiculous, they fly away constantly, never stop moving and regenerate health for no reason.  I don't get why they can't write some custom AI that makes it not impossible to fight.

Bats are awesome though.  If it were possible to make bats pets, I would be 100% sold on this update.
