I just read about viricides and plasmids, and it seems to me like you could write a universal computer program that is compatible with all life as we know it, am I right? For example, I could write some DNA that was self-replicating and could optionally add a genetic characteristic to an organism, depending on the presence of a chemical. A specific example might be a painting that manifested itself on the chest of a human, caused by a virus. Such technology would prove that life is programmable, and therefore completely controllable. Now, of course I am aware of cloning and other speedy processes like that, but a virus could do the entire process of mutating the DNA (or RNA) by itself without the need for fertilizing an embryo. This is all hyptohetical, of course.

That's essentially what I'm saying. I believe it is possible to code it on a computer- but forcing the visibility of attributes through viruses is still untested.
