This is a great question, one of the many I wish I knew the answer to.  When I was younger, about to go into college, I didn't give it much thought and when I did, I had no real idea and figured I would be happy enough doing whatever.  Now I realize that's not the case but it's merely eliminated a few options.

I've always been good at programming, and if I had a chance to do college again I'd probably do computer science instead.  But it's never seemed like a particularly fun job.  Research also seems like a nice prospect but the road to being a real scientist is a long one, and the ultimate rewards are pretty minimal.  You really have to love your field if you want to do research, and I don't feel that much love for programming or engineering to spend the rest of my life finding the solution to some really specialized problem that no one will ever hear about.

That's the hardest part for me is what to spend 50 years of my life on.  Lately I've become very interested in languages but it's hard to sit down and teach myself because I'm just no good at that.  The only other thing I can think of is travel, which I am currently pursuing but without much real direction.  Hopefully I'll find something I really like in the next couple of years, otherwise I won't have much of a choice but to settle down and become a wage slave in my chosen profession.

Interesting, kinda makes me think twice about what I want to do in life.
I wish you look on your travels and you better discover Atlantis or some poo poo because I'm counting on you now.
And thank you for answering all parts of the question promptly unlike that Zigs fellow
