Hi

OK, here's my attempt at making a rare topic on the forum, lol.

I'm looking for a really decent Dune-related thing (Frank Herbert) - you know, the sci-fi with Atreides, Harkonnens etc.  I just think it's really cool.  Something you've come across and really liked related to it.  It can be a really good movie, board game, PC game, whatever.  What are your experiences with this sci-fi legend, and have you found anything really decent related to it, something worth getting in to?

My two thoughts on Dune:

1) I remember reading every dune thing I could in jr high. I was obsessed.
2) I have not seen or heard of any dune related media for more than a decade.

The original Dune is indeed one of the greatest works of fiction of all time, and my favorite science fiction novel.

Unfortunately, it seems to have been one of those bursts of genius that cannot be equalled or improved upon, even by its own creator.  The sequels steadily degrade in quality, and I've tried and failed three times to read God Emperor of Dune because it's so fricking boring.  All of his son's derivative work reads like pulp sci fi garbage and pollutes the universe, and all other derivative works are lackluster at best.  I honestly enjoyed David Lynch's film adaptation, but that's only because I give it credit for trying the impossible: making a movie, or a game, or anything else that's 90% about people thinking and is still as engaging as the original novel.

In short: give up.
