You should preferably slam back one before doing something extreme (to prepare) and another one right after (to recover).
It all depends on how EXTREME you are and how frequently you are doing EXTREME things.
Optimally you would be drinking dews constantly because you are constantly doing extreme things.

I actually used to have a Mountain Dew T-Shirt. That's how extreme I am.
So naturally, I drink ALL DAY ERRY DAY

When I had to set up ads at 6 am at Sears on Sundays I would always drink a can of Code Red before my shift and then another can at about 730.

They only had a can machine, but on the plus side they were only 50 cents
