@EJ, the 1st gen is still a good device today.
The 2nd gen looks like a good upgrade, but at those prices I'd be very tempted to get the 1st gen.

If you have to ask why, you probably shouldn't be buying a tablet.

Actually you should get at least 3 tablets and a Raspberry Pi and a MK808 TV stick

Nexus 7 has a big-azz battery, with an OTG cable you can use it to charge your other devices in EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.
I even use my Nexus 7 to power my Raspberry Pi when I go camping!!
