SATA 6Gbps SSD 1.6TB (2.5-inch) — Still Worth It in 2025?

Hey everyone! I’m eyeing the SATA 6Gbps SSD 1.6TB (2.5-inch) https://serverorbit.com/solid-state-drives-ssd/sata-6gbps-ssd/1-6tb-ri-2-5inch as a budget-friendly storage upgrade for my older gaming rig/media server. With NVMe dominating the spotlight, I’m curious:

Performance: For games and general use, will the SATA III bottleneck (550MB/s) be noticeable vs. NVMe in real-world scenarios?

Durability: Anyone run this drive long-term? How’s the endurance for heavy writes (e.g., video editing or modding)?

Use Cases: Would you recommend it for a secondary game library drive, or is it better suited for backups/archival?

Bonus Q: Any tips to squeeze extra life out of it (e.g., overprovisioning, cooling)?

Context: My setup is a Ryzen 5 3600 + GTX 1660 Super, currently using a 500GB NVMe boot drive. Looking to expand without breaking the bank!

Hey, I can actually answer one of those questions! My boot NVME drive (which I also used for games) recently broke and I've been using an old SATA 6gbps. Boot times are the same but in the couple of games I've been playing, I did notice loading times are now slightly longer! If you can go with a NVME drive, do so!
