Here's probably the most important gameplay decision that we'll have to make: What happens if you don't win the race? Should you get a YOU'RE LOSER screen, a YOU'RE WINNER screen, or nothing at all.

Right now I have it that everyone gets a YOU'RE WINNER screen when the race ends.

That is the right decision!

Keep it like that. Nothing cheers people up after an unfortunate loss like hearing YOU'RE WINNER !

How about a YOU'RE NOT WINNER screen. Not as harsh as a YOU'RE LOSER screen, but still makes sure that the WINNER gets the best reward.

Nay.  It's ALWAYS "YOU'RE WINNER !" and NEVER anything else.

So far 3 for YOU WIN and 2 for YOU'RE WINNER.

but if everybody were to become WINNER then there would be no competition and thus no fun

with YOU WIN ! there is no losing and you still are WINNER but to a lesser degree
