OK, call it fate or whatever bollocks, but the GTX 570 died a horrible death last night.

So there I was, happily watching a Twitch stream of Total War: Warhammer, a battle between the Vampire Counts and Empire, when I heard this terrible popping sound, and the PC switched itself off.  After a bit of trouble-shooting, I figured it was the card, and yeah when I removed it the PC display came on again, albeit using the onboard graphics.  poo poo.

I'm now considering getting the 970 instead.  I guess I can still wait for early June for the 1070 to come out, but that will mean at least 5 weeks (inc. delivery) until I can get the 1070 card.  Well, it'll give me some time to eat at Five Guys I suppose.

Would it really be that bad if I bought a 970 now?  I mean, we only have an estimated price for the 1070, it's probably going to be a fair bit more expensive, and a 4GB 970 is going to last a few years yet.  Also we don't have any solid benchmark test results for the 1070/80 yet?

That's the price of a GTX 970 now. Even if it ends up being more than 260 (which probably will), have you any idea of the performance difference? Yes, no benchmarks are out yet but even in the worst-case scenario the 1070 will wipe the floor with the 970. It just makes no sense buying old tech when new tech is right around the corner

I hate to do it, but I have to agree with zigs. Unless you can find somebody clearing out old cards, you should wait
