It's time again for my yearly post about the state of gaming

It's been a pretty , but not perfect I'll admit

1000+ new games, more AAAs than usual thanks to Square Enix and Feral Interactive

The indie scene continues to flourish with games like Rocket League, Stardew Valley, and of course the MVP:


It was the year of the Vulkan API - a new low-level graphics API for everyone!

The first major game to use it was the new DOOM which IRONICALLY (or not) was a windows-only game 👺

Bethesda later felt sorry and removed the evil Denuvo DRM, which allowed the game to run perfectly in wine with identical performance to windows.
Vulkan was also used by Talos Principle and a bunch of FOSS emulators (ParaLLEl, Dolphin, etc)

Hope to see more games with Vulkan in 2017!!

It was also the year my friend @EJ switched to Linux (at least part time), which is great to see

I think that's it for the good news, now for the         :

* Steam Machines were a flop

* People getting used to the idea of Windows 10

* Windows gamers elected Trump

* Tracer is gay which goes against Christianity

So what's next for me?? Idk, I'll probably keep playing roguelikes, maybe get a Nintendo Switch too, but I will NEVER, EVER become a Windows gamer

I still can't believe how much Steam Machines failed, but there were just too many of them.

Too many, priced too high, and steamos was crap. not ambitious enough

Using X11 instead of DRM/KMS?
No monolithic updates like a real console???
No SDK for big picture apps?
No ARM steam machines like Nvidia Shield???
