I think they're still playing against ivory coast, if that game goes well for them then at least they can end on a high note

I'm kind of torn on this one because I want Ivory Coast to advance, but to even have the chance they have to beat DPRK.

They lost 7-0.  No amount of excuses will make that any different.  Hell, I didn't know you could even get 7 points in a soccer match.

Those guys are going to get one hell of a beating once they get back home.  Sucks to be them.

I think the record in a World Cup game stands at 10-1.  I remember hearing about a 9-0 game, too.  I already said that the better team won, and even if Portugal had cheated, they still would have won.  I don't think they are going to get a beating, but they won't be welcomed as the '66 squad was.

There is no doubt that the better team won today, but a few notes:

--Again we see DPRK play in conditions they are not used to.  Before it was the 29F windchill and now the heavy rain.  Bad luck, or something more?  This must be looked into. Both these conditions diminished the chances that DPRK would sweat hard enough for the country, as is required to win.

http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/world-news/we-re-not-sweating-enough-that-s-why-we-re-failing-fatherly-leader-1.1034535

--At least five of those goals looked too good to be true.  It is possible that DPRK decided to throw the match to lull Portugal into a sense of confidence for their upcoming match against their previous colony, Brazil.  This could be interpreted as great display of comradeship.

--It is also possible that Cheonan is still on the minds of the DPRK players, most being in the military.  They might want to go back to DPRK as soon as possible to defend it in light of the recent aggression.

Sports / DPRK soccer team trivia

To celebrate DPRK's upcoming match against Portugal, here are some facts about the DPRK soccer team:

-- Seven of the players on the current team are in DPRK military to serve and protect the country.  People often like to make fun of "non-star" players like most of those on the DPRK team, but the DPRK athletes for the most part have regular jobs and are still able to go against the greats of soccer, as their admirable performance against Brazil demonstrated (in spite of 29F windchill conditions that Brazilian payers playing in Europe year-round are more accustomed to).

--Also, the goal scored against Italy in the 1966 World Cup to eliminate Italy from the cup was scored by a humble dentist and corporal in the DPRK army, Do ik Pak, not a multimillionaire star playing soccer professionally year-round.  The 1966 victory was achieved by a strategy previously unknown in the West, the Sada-ri (ladder) tactic.  Expect to see something similar tomorrow:

http://inewp.com/?p=3241

-- All players except for one play locally in DPRK in order to support the nation.  The other player, hero Jong Tae-Se, was born in "South Korea" and plays in Japan.  When given the choice to represent Japan, "South Korea," or DPRK, he chose the latter.  This is the same player who showed emotion during the DPRK anthem in the game against Brazil.

Tomorrow's game is bound to be great.  Last time DPRK went against Portugal in a World Cup they were ahead 3-0 until Eusebio, one of Portugal's greatest players, scored four goals.  Portugal scored another goal and DPRK lost valiantly 3-5.  Tomorrow there will be no Eusebio to help the Portuguese.

Everyone is sweating after a few minutes so I doubt the cold matters that much to them, and South Africa doesn't even get that cold.  46F at the worst, that's pretty mild.

I read that it was 32 and could go down to 29.  They might have snow, the first time since 2007/8.

I'm mixed about this one.  They showcase the greatness of Juche and Songun, but the narrator takes on a sarcastic tone.  It is clear that he does not appreciate the greatness and privilege of what he is allowed to see.

I should have stated it better.  They were most likely poisoned, or another imperialist plot could have been waged against them.  DPRK football team is not used to playing in cool climates, unlike a lot of Brazilians who play in Europe year-round.  Perhaps the cooler climate was brought in to take down DPRK.

Of course, it is also possible that the DPRK simply did not sweat hard enough to celebrate the memory of the Eternal President Fatherly Leader Kim Il Sung and fight for one Korea.  It has been documented:

Isn't North Korea fairly cold?  It's right next to Siberia after all.

It can be cold, but DPRK football team mostly plays in state-of-the-art stadiums with internal heating and preservation capacity, designed by Kim Jong Il himself.  Biggest capacity for non-automotive purposes:

The DPRK team is also not used to specific type of cool found in South Africa, or so I've heard.

The great movie Pulgasari was commissioned by Eternal President Kim Il Sung in order to showcase the great strength and will of the Chosun people.  Dear Leader Kim Jong Il was the prime executive producer and creative director for the movie.  The result was an East Asian collaborative effort to combat the evils of imperialism and their capitalist propaganda, "Godzilla" and "King Kong."  The movie was directed by the ex-hero Shin Sang-ok, who willingly lent his talents for the production.  He was later brainwashed by secret rebel forces in the South and defected.

The movie:

Brazil cheated.  They probably poisoned the DPRK squad like that rebellious "South Korea" did.

The Great Eternal President Maximum Generalissimo Kim Il Sung smiled on the great player Ji Yun-Nam to allow him to at least make one goal for retribution.  Kim Jong Il probably directed the play, too.
