This is baffling.  Katie Holmes gave a horrible performance, the effects were hilariously bad, and the story was so goddamned corny, mostly due to the presentation.  Obviously it was better than previous Batman movies but I don't think you can set a much lower bar than that.

The Dark Knight was good in large part because Batman Begins was so bad.  Good villain, good progression, good effects, and for once a Maggie Gyllenhalll performance I enjoyed.

It's hard to demand realism from a story about a millionaire who dresses up like a bat because he may or may not have killed a bunch of hookers and businessmen during his 80's asshole phase.

What impressed me about it was how they made a super hero movie look so un-super hero (in a good way)
