I'm surprised it took this long.  Everyone's going to cry bloody murder and then fork over the cash, and the quality won't improve measurably except for a few people who give a poo poo (and would have made something good even without being paid)

There are several mods I have donated to already but I hate the idea of putting paid mods on the workshop. Also, the content creators only get a 25% cut of the sales.

The fact that the mod creator is only getting 25% of the sales is the reason I won't buy paid mods on Steam.

oh for real?  what the fetch.  I guess Valve saw somewhere they could make money for stuff they were giving away, but at least they could have tried to get more people working on mods instead of just trying to wring more money out of people.

lol people are already downloading mods from nexus and uploading them to Steam as their own with a price tag. What a monster Valve has created

I mean free mods still exist, though, right? I imagine there aren't very many mods that will sell all that well.

Oh boy, this is unreal. This has to be the dumbest thing Valve has ever done. This, combined with their complete lack of transparency and terrible customer support has really made me lose a lot of respect for them over the last couple years.
