Nintendo now offers the option to use Unity for developing Wii U titles. They have also introduced the Nintendo Web Framework, in which one can use web standards like HTML5 and CSS to create Wii U applications and games.

Apparently, a lot of the requirements for publishing Wii U titles have been lifted (to make it easier for independent developers). However, I think developers still need to purchase a Wii U development kit in order to publish their games (which I think is dumb, since I already have a Wii U and PC).

Looks like they have their sights on those sweet kickstarter games (since a good deal of them use Unity, including the high-profile ones, like Wasteland 2)

Nintendo's gonna go wherever the casual game market goes, and if there's anything to be learned from XBLI, it's that "indy" means "90% chance of some old game mechanic getting re-skinned and sold as a casual game".
