Shipping a PC

#1 06-01-2015, 16:15:28 PM
In the event I cannot sell my PC, I would then want to ship it across the country.  What are some things I should consider when doing so?  Are some services better than others?  Packaging options? What if I decide to ship it internationally instead of domestically? (not sure which I would prefer at the moment)  :roddy:

I don't have a car and don't intend to buy/rent one at the moment.  Maybe next year when I have more time I will take my computer across the country in a car and tour the various US internet cafes  :roddy:

Besides, my plane tickets are already purchased.  :belair:

Actually, I could probably take several of the key components in my carry-on now that I think about it.  I just hope security doesn't think it's an explosive.

If you can do it in two days, I might take you up on it this summer for a different trip I may be planning.  :ateam:

Twice now I've stuffed my PC internals into a carryon and flown from Indiana to Texas.  I left behind my case and PSU because they're too heavy and easily replaceable

The first time, I didn't really bother protecting anything and the motherboard didn't survive

The second time, I learned my lesson and put it into its box, and everything made it okay.

So the lesson is, wrap your poo poo and especially the motherboard, don't assume your clothes are enough padding

Did security make you take out every item and/or explain what it was?  How burdensome was the security process?

I checked it so I didn't get to see if there was any reaction, but TSA opened it and left one of those slips.

In addition to putting it in boxes, did you use anti-static wrapping?

I think this will probably be the best way to go.  I have already taken most of what I wanted to take in several trips, so I was packing light anyways.  I'll just have to get rid of the case and the PSU (RIP).
