Will it be safe to eat seafood in Japan in late September and October? Supposedly the ocean water has been contaminated with radioactive waste but I think it's probably
just a bunch of crap from the environmentalists.

What do you think?

It is a nice country and it is cheaper to travel in Japan than  the United States because of the depreciation of the yen.  There are too many tourists and the subways and trains are old. A lot of the infrastructure was built in the 70s and has visibly aged although it's still functioning. If you have money then it is worth a visit. The architecture is nice and they do a good job keeping their buildings and streets clean. The people are overly polite but that is mostly a good thing. They have vending machines and convenience stores pretty much anywhere you go. There is no reason to own a coffee machine because of the vending machines and convenience stores are so ubiquitous.

I rate Japan 4.1 /5.

I started off in Tokyo and stayed there for four days. Then I went to Kyoto  for a week. After that I went to Osaka and spent two nights there. The last place I visited was Okoyama and I was there for two days. I am mostly into history, public parks, and architecture so Kyoto is definitely my favorite city because of all of the temples. The city is packed full of tourists to the point where it feels like you're walking around in a theme park but the city has so many interesting things to offer. As for Osaka, I don't think there is any need to spend more than a day there. There isn't much to do in Osaka besides visit Oda Nobunaga's castle.
I really enjoyed Okoyama but I can't remember what I was doing there off the top of my head. They had great burgers in Okoyama. The food was great everywhere I went to in Japan and there was a wide variety of ethnic cuisine.

The trains are old? Maybe outside of Tokyo, AFAIK they replace the train stock on the most used lines pretty regularly.  Sure beats anything we have in the US.

I hated Kyoto, although I've only been to Kiyomizudera and the surrounding tourist hellscape.  It really is like a theme park.  I'd like to spend more time off the beaten path next time.

I liked Osaka a lot, it feels more laid back than Tokyo.  Dotonbori is a pretty fun couple of hours.  Last time we went, we stayed in Osaka and made day trips out to Kyoto and other places, it was a lot cheaper that way.

Our plan for next time is to start off in Seoul for a coiuple of days, go down to Busan and take the ferry to Fukuoka, then work our way up to Tokyo stopping anywhere that seems interesting.

The train cars are probably new. What I meant to say is that the stations felt old to me. Obviously they were built to last for a long time and the fact that they were built in the 70s doesn't affect functionality.

I also liked Osaka. If I had to choose a city in Japan to live in I'd probably choose Osaka. But there isn't much for tourists to do there.

I'll probably go again with my parents in August. If you decide to travel during that time then we can maybe meet up for lunch.
