Something that bugs me about the USA's laws is how you can't have a car that doesn't comply with the DOT's needlessly unusual safety regulations (unless the car is 25+ years old). Automakers can't sell such cars, either.

Evidently, Ford is also tired of this:

This is indeed concerning. I'm not a big car guy but is this why we could never have the badass Nissan Skylines from the video games here in the USA? I always wondered why we had Nissan dealers but couldn't get those cars.

Because Nissan probably didn't want to go through the trouble of federalizing any of the Skyline models (though we do get the latest Skylines under the Infiniti marque).

Also, I think part of the reason the import laws are so harshly enforced is due to several hooligans trying to sneak some Skylines into the US.

Import laws for many US products are funny and you should read through some of the schedules for certain ones if you get the chance, I think for shoes for instance you're not allowed to include an extra pair of shoelaces because it DESTROYS AMERICAN JOBS (just like needless agricultural subsidies that go overwhelmingly to mega-farms and "gentlemen" farmers destroy agricultural jobs all over the developing world)

Have you guys heard about how the USA and Oprah destroyed Acai berries for the indigenous people that depend on it for their livelihood? That's right, it's more important that fat people in the united states have their superfood smoothy with acai in the morning than letting these poor tribals eat the berry they have depended on for centuries.

The same thing was said in regards to quinoa and the poor in countries that grow it (like Bolivia) not being able to afford it, but the flipside is that the demand has helped the livelihoods of the growers themselves

Cirus is a tyrant who locked that other thread in mid-post so I'm just gonna dump this response here instead

No, they're their own brand of special. There are people out there who apparently claim that any sort of electromagnetic frequency, be it from cell phone towers and power lines to in-home wi-fi networks, will make them physically ill with headaches and nausea and other poo poo like that, and in this tech-heavy world some people have been crazy enough to go move to some cabin in the woods somewhere to save their health. There has so far been no measurable indication that this is an actual medical problem caused by EMF stuff like this. One of the funniest things I read about this issue is someone who trolled someone else claiming to have this problem by pretending to turn off some device (think it was a tower of some kind) for six weeks and when the person said that everything was fine and they had no health problems it was all "JOKE'S ON YOU WE NEVER TURNED THAT poo poo OFF!"
