I watched like half an episode of the British one and I thought it was pretty boring. I've never seen or even been aware of an american one.

the only thing from top gear i have seen was when that helicopter crashed racing the car, and i thought that was pretty funny

It's never pretty when Americans try to copy a British TV show... Top Gear (UK) works because it's got 3 good and goofy presenters, a surprisingly high budget for a BBC show, and an established popularity which pulls in celebrity guests and gets them the best cars to doss around in, where the American version doesn't have any of that I assume
