The image above shows both the position of the vehicle relative to Mars and the time until it gets there. When the MSL finally touches down, NASA will be able to gather concrete data about the habitability of Mars and whether there was at one point advanced intelligent life.

Right now it looks like the rover is missing Mars altogether, because NASA is too fetching stupid to launch the rover in a straight trajectory, which would save months of space travel.
