I just bought a $25 Vanilla Visa gift card today, and I wanted to buy an item on the global Rakuten website. However, they appear to be located in Japan, and Vanilla Visa gift cards sold in the US apparently can no longer be used internationally.

This is my question: can I use my card on an international website, or is it under the same rules as traveling internationally?

Well, it turns out that online stores based internationally are off-limits for my gift card.

I can upgrade my card to a reusable MyVanilla card, and that can be used for international purchases. I would have to wait about 7-10 business days for the MyVanilla card to arrive, though.

Alternatively, could one of you guys buy the item I need for me (and then once the order is processed, I pay you with my card)?
