*Fixed* DREAMCAST! Y U NO READ MY DISC!!!
(1/1)

I'm trying to burn the dremcast version of half life on a cd-r to play on my Sega dremcast and it NEVER WORKS! I've tried this a few years back with sonic adventure 2 three times and it didn't work, i'm using 700mb Magnavox cd-r and I know my dremcast is not copy protected because I've played homebrew on it in the past, what di I do!?!
Svetlana
Dreamcasts don't have copy protection. Later models just don't have the same MIL-CD exploit the earlier ones have.

Your drive is probably faulty. You can either open it up and trying to increase the laser power (there's a potentiometer somewhere you can adjust with a screwdriver, but I don't know where it is and let it be warned doing so decreases the laser's lifespan, if it even still works), or buy a replacement GD-ROM drive altogether. Or an entire new Dreamcast.

In my personal experience, any 700MB CD-R works, no special brands are really required.

Looked at some tutorials and opened my dreamcast up.

I looked at the disc speed adjuster screw and turned it with pliers (almost crushing it too)

Closed up shop, turned it on, inserted my disc AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND!

why use pliers when you have 2 perfectly good screwdrivers?
Svetlana
the right tool for the right job

my dreamcast randomly turns off sometimes

it sounds like an overheating issue but i've cleaned it inside and out and put it on a well ventilated area but it still did it sometimes
maybe a faulty psu or something

one day i decided to try letting it run sideways (air vent up) and it never restarted once

pretty ghetto

Screwdrivers didn't work, the screw had a square shape to it

It's pretty hard to ruin the efficiency of a door-stop.
