Have they changed that crappy combat system the first witcher game had?

First game's combat was fine, most people who complain about it didn't play more than a few hours. If they did, they'd realize that later down the line, the different styles, potions, oils, bombs and magic make it much more fun and involved

I made it to act four then quit.  Combat was just so boring and repetitive, there was no challenge other than to do the same sequence of moves each time.  But I guess it no longer matters.

Never played 2, what's that like?  Is no. 3 going to be an open-world?
