Portugal gets the group of death and it looks like the USA might actually be able to get out of the group stage this time!!

Pretty much every nation in the world has a football team, and FIFA has 208 members.

Wow, it's strange watching an assembly line in action without upbeat production music and a soothing male voice to tell you what's going on.

I could probably care about this except I remember trying to watch the finals a couple of years ago and it was still incredibly boring.

I PREDICT:

Brazil - 7 pts
Portugal - 5 pts
Ivory Coast - 4 pts
Communists - 0 pts

But it's really a toss up between Portugal and Ivory Coast!!!

On the other hand, America will pass through with 9 points on their way to winning their first of 100 consecutive World Cups :usa:

USA ALL THE WAY
DESTROY EVERY WEAK NATION THAT STANDS IN THE WAY OF MANIFEST DESTINY
CRUSH THEIR SKULLS WITH OUR CLEATS
STAIN THE GRASS WITH THE BLOOD OF THE FOREIGNERS
BLAST THE SPHERES OF POWER INTO THEIR NETS WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO BREAK THE GOALIE IN HALF

yeah if the USA doesn't make it out of this group then they shouldn't even be here.

England vs USA should be a good match.  Whoever comes second in that group will probably play Germany in the last 16.

how many football matches has usa won

Too many to count since they're been around for so long.  In recent years, they managed to reach the quarterfinals of the 2002 WC beating Portugal and Mexico.  The 2006 WC was pathetic and they only got a point by drawing against Italy.  In the Confederations Cup this year they reached the finals by beating Spain and they led Brazil 2-0 at halftime before collapsing and losing.  There are a bunch of historical matches but those aren't relevant anymore.

A lot of people still want to think that the US doesn't have a good team and that our league can't compete with any respectable leagues.  Our league is comparable with the second level leagues in England, Spain etc. and our national team is fairly young and we have a number of players who are in the Premier League and are capable of competing against the best players in the world.

The problems for this WC are that we won't one of our young strikers and that our best defender might be out.  Regardless, getting 5 points out of that group would be a good result compared to 2006.  Getting a draw against England should be a huge accomplishment.
