It's a subconscious indicator of who is posting, something you see out of the corner of your eye and look for the familiar shape and color in order to identify the poster without having to devote precious conscious mental effort to the task.  It's like that thing where people can read jumbled words as long as the first and last letter are correct.

I'm fooled practically every time (if only for an instant), I keep thinking Cirus is back or Crysis and OTRR are still posting.  It's very disheartening once you realize the truth.
